In the heart of the reviving midtown Phoenix area, close to downtown, 2020 on Central and its large 1980s-style lobby was in need of a makeover.
Serving as the main entrance to the Arizona Central Credit Union’s 12-story corporate office building, the outdated lobby was stuck in the past—dominated by dark granite tiles and a noisy fountain—until it recently underwent a bold and bright remodel with the help of DBSI.
As a trusted partner for the credit union’s branch remodels and maintenance for many years, DBSI was a natural choice for their new lobby construction, said Janet Moodie, Chief Operating Officer for Arizona Central Credit Union.
The building houses the credit union, a fitness center, and many other businesses, so it was important to stay open during the renovation. Construction was done in sections and phases to keep the lobby and elevators accessible to tenants and visitors, said DBSI project manager, Corde Kurtz.
“It was challenging at times, because walkways could change daily, but safety and accessibility were always the primary focus and it went as smoothly as possible,” said Moodie.
New carpeting, terrazzo flooring, furniture and other updates now provide a fresh, modern space for people to meet, sit and enjoy something from the lobby cafe. The new look is key for helping the building to continue to attract new tenants going into the future.
“It is exciting to see tenants using the new space exactly as we intended. People gather there and interact with coworkers and clients,” said Moodie. “It’s met every expectation and goal we had.”
